Who We are and What We Do!

By Katherine Kehler

Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow.” Psalm 144.4

We won’t see him again.  We won’t hear his voice.  We won’t see the twinkle in his eyes.  He won’t be encouraging us anymore. We will miss him very much.  He died! People at his memorial remembered his love for and commitment to Jesus resulting in his priority to help fulfill the Great Commission.

This year we have attended several memorials and I observed something–that who we are (character) and what we have done will be remembered at the memorial and printed in the obituaries. I realized this is our legacy–not our nicely decorated homes, our cars, our clothes and jewelry, or expensive toys or life insurance.  The meaningful legacy we leave behind are memories and how we have influenced people.

And of course Jesus knows what really counts for eternity and will reward us for our good works (what He thinks is good) when we stand before Him.

I have come to the conclusion that so much of our busyness is of no consequence.

Lord, help us know what really makes a difference to the people we leave behind and for all eternity. Our time is so short.  Amen.
