Least Likely to Succeed

Waterfall sceneBut God told Samuel, ‘Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. . . . God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart1 Samuel 16:7

Have you ever heard comments about successful leaders such as, “I would never have expected him/her to succeed?

His brothers certainly didn’t expect David to succeed. He was the youngest of the family of boys — a shepherd, and inexperienced. What did he know about leading people? He didn’t; all he knew was how to herd sheep. But God knew his heart and choose Him to be a king.

I wonder, have you ever thought that perhaps some of the people you lead to Christ or disciple could one day become the leaders in your community or country? God looks at the heart, and He knows and chooses people whose hearts are tender toward Him.

Think about the people you feel are the least likely to succeed, and ask God to show you their potential. Pray for them to become the person God wants them to become.

Father, I am so glad You don’t judge us by our outward appearance. You know when our hearts are tender and obedient to You. Father, enable us to become more like You and see the potential in others. Thank You! Amen.
