Why Worry?

Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body what you will wear…Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?Matthew 6:25-27

We worry over our children, our finances,  our health, that we won’t be able to meet the new challenges we’re facing. We’re consumed by the “what ifs.”

What does worry accomplish?

Worry doesn’t accomplish anything. It robs today of its joys and tomorrow of its hope.

Worship and worry cannot live in the same heart. Worry is an affront to God’s character. Our worry is saying, “I can’t really trust you, Lord.”

We don’t have to worry about tomorrow for God is already there. He knows our needs. Trust in His extravagant goodness. Whatever you lack, God will provide.

When Jesus says, “do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body what you will wear…Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” It doesn’t mean we should be lazy and not provide for our families.

Paul tells the Christians in Thessalonica, “Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody else” (1 Thessalonians 4:11)

Don’t you just love the Bible for its wisdom and practical advice?

Thank you, Father, for being involved in our lives and for meeting our needs.
