God replied to Moses, ‘I am who I am. Say this to the people of Israel: I am has sent me to you.’ God also said to Moses, ‘Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you. This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations.‘” Exodus 3.14-15 (emphasis added)

I AM WHO I AM.”

Not I WAS or I WILL BE . . . But, I AM.
Eternal. Everlasting. Infinite. Timeless.
How do I get my head around a God like this when all I’ve ever known are beginnings and an endings? There was no beginning to Him and there is no end. We can search, discover and learn all we can about our God but we will never come to the end of Him. He always was and always will be.

“‘To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?’ asks the Holy One. Have you never heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or wear. No one can measure the depths of His understanding.” Isaiah 40:25, 28 (NLT)

Because “I AM” is everlasting:

He is not limited by my problems or my choices.

He is not held captive by what I do.

He uses circumstances in my past to impact my future good.

His plans are not thwarted by what I or anyone else might do.

My pain doesn’t overwhelm Him.

My failure doesn’t discourage Him.

My anger doesn’t scare Him.

My questions don’t threaten Him.

My choices don’t leave Him at a loss as to what to do.

He is greater than my circumstances. He is bigger than my problems. The question is, will I allow the everlastingness of God to change the way I live?

Yahweh, You have always been and You will always be I AM. May I always quest to understand You more and allow the truth of who You are transform the way I live. Amen!

Thought:  What is God like? Take some time to list out the characteristics of God. What does God say about Himself in His Word? Write them down and thank Him for who He is.

devotionals online“Blessed are..” (the unlikely ones) Read: Matthew 6

Fighting an uphill battle. Going against the grain.  His days are numbered

Such phrases are usually uttered with stooped shoulders, deflated sighs and faces of resignation and yet “for the Christ follower” they can be shouts of triumph. Jesus’ own words the “blessed ones” of Matthew 6 speak of the incongruity of the Christian life:

The poverty stricken will live like kings
Weepers will know the comfort of deity
The unnoticed faithful will bask in riches
Starving souls will dine with royalty
Mocked mercy-givers will be applauded by God
The shameful majority seem to win, but the pure will gaze on holiness
War makers are rewarded now, but peacemakers will dance innocently with joy
Bound, tortured, shamed, limping unknown Christians will reign freely forever

We read that “Because (Jesus) never lost sight of where He was headed” that exhilarating finish in and with God. “He could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whateverHebrews 12:2, (the Message). That same hope is available to us as we “fix our eyes on Jesus” in the midst of stresses of daily life.  What seems like upside down living results in right side up joy.
