Month: June 2018

My late uncle Clifford once told me about a time when he was driving and came across a cardboard box in the middle of the road. He swerved around the box narrowly missing it. Looking back in his rear view mirror he saw a young child crawl out of the box. Shaking badly, he quickly stopped, picked up the child and took the child back to the mother who hadn’t realized that her child had left the yard and gone onto the road.

Sometimes we too need to get out of the box we are in to realize the danger around us… the danger of the loss of eternal life without a personal relationship with Jesus… the world is lost without him. Is there someone in your life that needs rescuing?

My prayer for you

Our loving Creator God, praise be you, the God of our fathers, who put into the king’s heart the desire to bring honor to the house of the LORD in Jerusalem and who extended his good favor to Ezra before the king and his advisers and all the king’s powerful officials. Because your hand was on Ezra, he took courage and gathered leading men from Israel to go up with him. In the same way please help us out of our little boxes so that we too can have your boldness and courage to reach out to others. In Jesus name, amen.” Ezra 7:27,28

“Don’t grieve God. Don’t break His heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for Himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted.” Ephesians 4:30 (The Message)

Have you ever given a gift you poured your heart and soul into, only to discover it was never really used — or even appreciated?

If you have invited Christ into your life, you have received this amazing gift of the Holy Spirit! This present is like none other: God the Father poured His heart and soul into this gift for you!

But have you set this precious gift on a shelf to collect dust with all the other well-meaning gifts you’ve received over the years? Have you ever really used it?

Could it be you’re afraid God might ask you to do something you don’t want to do, or go someplace you don’t want to go?

It is not enough to just have the Holy Spirit in our lives. He wants to play an active role. He longs to give us comfort, to be our guide, and to empower us to live the life He has called us to.

So how do we embrace this gift? How do we use its full potential?

We open the door to the Holy Spirit’s incredible work in our lives when we surrender. When we get out of the driver’s seat and let Him drive.

Surrender is never easy, no matter who you are! But if we never surrender, we will never experience the adventures God has waiting for us. The Holy Spirit is God’s precious, astonishing, and astounding gift to you! Will you set this amazing gift on a shelf to collect dust, or will you step out in faith, fully surrender, and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime?

Lord, we confess our desire to control our own lives and do what feels best instead of letting go and allowing You to lead us. Today we relinquish control, we take our hands off the wheel and invite Your Holy Spirit to take the lead. Amen.
