daily devotional

Take His hand, even though it means letting go of what you are holding on to.

Please His heart, even though it may not please others.

Wait for His time, even though your desire is to get it done now.

Obey His Word, even though you hear something different that is popular.

Follow His path, even though you see a valley ahead.

Trust His wisdom, even though you want to do it differently.

Give Him praise, even though you are going through something unpleasant.

Be at rest, even though you have every reason to worry or fear.

Many plans are in a man’s heart, But the counsel of the LORD will stand.” Proverbs 19:21 (NASB)

devotional onlineI had a vision, or was it a dream?
It came to my heart like a bright, golden beam.
Was it a calling, a part of His will?
Was it a promise only He could fulfill?
My heart can’t deny it, the vision was clear
Can this be the hour? Is its time drawing near?

You have found your delight in the Lord, and He has placed within you the desires that are from Him, for Him, and can only be fulfilled by Him. Never step away from trust in His timetable, even if it means waiting a lifetime. He who placed His desires in you has the power to fulfill them, the knowledge to know how, and the wisdom to know when the time is best.

It is best to be still,
As He works out His will.
When you hear Him say, “Go
There’s no need to be slow—
No need to delay—
When God is saying,
It’s time to obey!”

He will fulfill the desires of those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him…” Psalm 145:19 (AMP)

devotional

Based on Psalm 23

The Lord has promised us shepherding, not perfect understanding of where He is leading or why He is taking us there.

The Lord has promised us what we need, not what might be on our wish list.

The Lord has promised us green meadows where we can find rest, not a life that doesn’t require labor in His fields.

The Lord has promised us peaceful streams where we can quiet our hearts, not the absence of deep waters to overcome in our walk of faith.

The Lord has promised restoration to our souls, not a life without tests and trials.

The Lord has promised to lead us to the places that will honor Him the most, not to the places that will make us look good.

The Lord has promised to walk with us through the valley, not take us on paths that only lead to the mountain tops.

The Lord has promised us victory in the face of the enemy, not the absence of spiritual warfare.

The Lord has promised us His presence, His anointing, His blessing, His fullness, His power, His unfailing goodness, and His love throughout our earthly journey…with the guarantee that the most glorious things are still to come…I will live in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23:6 (NLT)

free online devotionalsThe high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this:I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.” Isaiah 57:15 NKJV

Kathryn Kuhlman once said that God is not looking for golden vessels or silver vessels, but yielded vessels.

The yielded vessel is a sanctified vessel—cleansed and set apart from sin for God’s purposes. It is the yielded vessel that is a vessel of honor (2 Timothy 2:21).

The yielded vessel is a dependent vessel—It does not rely upon its own resources or abilities. It recognizes its need to be totally dependent upon the Lord. A yielded vessel walks in humility, giving God its consent to be all. It knows that without the presence of the Lord, it is an empty vessel with nothing to offer.

The yielded vessel is a receptive vessel—Water seeks out the lowest place as it flows. Pour out a bucket of water on the side of a hill and it will not follow the path up the hill, but down it. It is into the yielded vessel that the Holy Spirit flows.

“We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7 NKJV

Lord, I am Your yielded vessel.
I choose to be set apart, lowly, humble, dependent—
Not to be a useless vessel, but to be a vessel filled with You.
Pick me up, or set me down.
Use me now, or use me later.
Keep me active, or keep me quiet.
Put me in a prominent place, or put me in an unnoticeable place.
Use me here, or use me somewhere else.
Use me for special occasions, or use me for everyday occurrences.
Either way, Lord, I am content to be in Your hands, in Your care, in Your keeping—to be known by You, to be used by You, for whatever is pleasing to You, and brings You glory.

Jesus is…

My Shepherd who always leads me to a prepared place;
My Truth who has never misspoken;
My Way who never goes in the wrong direction;
My Life that never drains me;
My “Yes who encourages me on;
My Intercessor who never takes a day off;
My Treasure whose value will never depreciate;
My Bread that never spoils or becomes stale;
My Door who keeps opened the way to the Father’s presence;
My Rest who keeps me joined to His easy yoke;
My Carpenter who is building my life according to His master plan;
My Shower of Blessing without dry spells;
My Morning Star who brings hope to each new day.

Christ is all. “ where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.” Colossians 3:11

 alt=Lord, I don’t need tomorrow’s mercies,
Or joys, or power, or grace—
For I know that you haven’t asked me
To run in tomorrow’s race.
So I’ll keep my heart in the moment,
Knowing You’re faithful and true—
Lord, I don’t need tomorrow’s mercies,
For Your portion today will do.

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.” Lamentations 3:22-23 (NLT)

“But first, be concerned about His kingdom and what has His approval. Then all these things will be provided for you. So don’t ever worry about tomorrow. After all, tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:33-34 (GW)

According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.” 1 Timothy 1:11 (NKJV)

daily devotional onlineGod, who is the author and giver of every blessing, is called the blessed God. Blessedness is a state of happiness. When we read that God is the blessed God, it means that He is a happy God and He wants to bring His happiness to us.

Why is God called the “happy God”? He is happy because He is holy. The joys we draw from the wells of salvation come to us from a pure fountain. If the Scriptures said, “God is unholy” then He would be without happiness, for there is no happiness to be found in darkness, in evil, or in sin.

Some people have painted a false image of holiness. They portray holiness as something associated with gloom, legalism, and grimness. They think of the fruits of holiness as unhappiness, meanness, and a sour disposition. However, it is important for us to remember that heaven, the holiest place of all, is also the happiest place of all.

It is also possible to have a wrong image of happiness. Happiness is not defined by someone who has a great sense of humor, is fun-loving, or has a bubbly personality. Happiness is a state of someone’s heart and sense of wellbeing, not a characteristic of someone’s temperament or a certain personality trait.

Who are the happiest people on earth? The Scriptures tell us, “Blessed (happy, enviably fortunate, and spiritually prosperous—possessing the happiness produced by the experience of God’s favor and especially conditioned by the revelation of His grace, regardless of their outward conditions) are the pure in heart, for they shall see God!” Matthew 5:8 AMP. (Note that this happiness of heart is true even in the midst of hardships and difficulties.)

True happiness comes to us as a fruit of our relationship with God through Christ. The blood of Jesus that cleanses us from all sin, not only removes our guilt and condemnation, but opens the doorway for our happiness (blessedness) by bringing us into a right relationship with God and allowing us to be partakers of His holiness (Hebrews 12:10).

I love the words spoken long ago by a new believer in Christ while giving his testimony of salvation during a church service, “Sometin’ in me got released for good. I swallowed sunshine! He has given me a mighty faith that has made me feel clean inside.”

How good it is to belong to a happy (blessed) God who brings happiness (blessedness) to His children.

The plan of God, the will of God, the purposes of God, and the answers of God don’t come to us all at once, even though they are all in His heart for us now. The mindset of the world might be “I want it, and I want it now” but the mindset of the world is not the mindset of the kingdom of God.

It is important for us to place everything that concerns us into His hands, and leave them there… it is here, in His hands, that all things are in safe keeping.

It is good for us to remember the truth that is stated in the worship chorus In His Time by the Maranatha Singers:

IN HIS TIME, IN HIS TIME
HE MAKES ALL THINGS BEAUTIFUL IN HIS TIME
LORD, PLEASE SHOW ME EVERYDAY
AS YOU’RE TEACHING ME YOUR WAY
THAT YOU’LL DO JUST WHAT YOU SAY
IN YOUR TIME.
IN YOUR TIME, IN YOUR TIME
YOU MAKE ALL THINGS BEAUTIFUL IN YOUR TIME
LORD, MY LIFE TO YOU I BRING
MAY EACH SONG I HAVE TO SING
BE TO YOU A LOVELY THING
IN YOUR TIME

Why does God say “No”? Because of our shortsightedness and His omniscience. He sees “the distant scene” and He knows how the next step should be taken that the “distant scene” may be made clear to us.

What we mistake for God’s denials are often God’s wise and providential delays, which are not denials at all. Many an individual thanks God that he did not have his way, that things were taken from him, that difficulties were put in his way to block his advance in order that the might have the delight of overcoming, or the delight of awaiting God’s time.

He sees the perils that are in our path that we cannot see. He speaks to us in mercy and grace and He builds us up to meet the dangers and be prepared to receive the things we could not wisely use today. There are many things which we can employ tomorrow that we cannot wisely use today.
A.A. Conrad

When I cannot understand my Father’s leading,
And it seems to be but hard and cruel fate,
Still I hear that gentle whisper ever pleading,
God is working, God is faithful—Only wait.
A.B. Simpson

For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.”  Habakkuk 2:3

Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
1 John 2:6 NLT

How did Jesus live each day?
Is it really possible for us to live as He lived?
Here are some things to consider:

The first is His dependency.
Jesus lived each day dependent upon His Father. We can also live each day in complete dependency upon the Lord. He is our strength, our life, our sufficiency, and He is the source of all we need.

The second is His faithfulness.
Jesus lived each day in faithfulness to what His Father called Him to do. As followers of Jesus Christ we can be faithful to what God has called us to do and do His will whole-heartedly.

Think carefully about this Jesus whom we declare to be God’s messenger and High Priest. For He was faithful to God, who appointed Him. Hebrews 3:1-2 NLT

Jesus lived each day in faithfulness to what His Father called Him to do. Jesus stayed true to His Father’s plan and will for His life. He didn’t drift away from it or follow it half-heartedly.

‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ Matthew 25:23 NKJV

As followers of Jesus Christ we can be faithful to what God has called us to do and do His will whole-heartedly.

The third is His obedience.

Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.Luke 22:42 NKJV

Jesus lived each day in obedience to His Father’s will. Jesus not only obeyed His Father, but He obeyed Him without delay. He obeyed willingly and joyfully.
So you must live as God’s obedient children. 1 Peter 1:14 NLT

Obedience to God’s will in our lives is a choice we can make each day. As God’s children, He trains us to be obedient because He knows what is best for us. It is through our obedience that we know the meaning of a joy-filled heart and a meaningful life.

The fourth thing is His motivation.

And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.” John 8:29 NKJV

The reason Jesus lived the way He did was because He wanted to fully glorify and please His Father. He lived to please only His Father and have His approval.
Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. 2 Corinthians 5:9 NKJV

The motivation of our hearts should be to please Him. There is nothing higher than that. When we live to do what is well pleasing in His sight we will know His smile of approval upon our lives.

The fifth thing is His empowering.

Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power.

The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, for He has anointed Me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free.” Luke 4:14, 18 NLT

Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit.  Jesus lived each day in the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit. All that He did in His public ministry was under the anointing and empowering of the Holy Spirit.

“I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.” Ezekiel 36:27 NKJV
“Be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18 KJV

Since His ascension to the right hand of the Father, Jesus has made it possible for each of us to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to have His power in our lives. It is by the Holy Spirit’s presence, fullness, and power that we can walk as Jesus walked and live as Jesus lived. Ask Him now to fill you, empower you, and lead you step by step into His plan and purpose for you.

Lord, I thank You that believers are receivers and that You are the giver of every good and perfect gift. I thank You that through believing I receive Jesus, salvation, peace, joy, answered prayer, and the power to live a life that pleases You.

Lord, make me a believer who continues to believe, a follower who continues to follow, and a servant who to continues to serve. May my belief and trust in You never become a thing of the past. May I never look back or refer to my walk of faith as the “Good old days.” Keep me ever growing, ever moving on in You, ever pressing into Your heart…move me from faith to faith and glory to glory.

May I be a believer who believes Your word and trusts it; who sees Your path and follows it; who knows Your strength and counts upon it; who hears Your voice and follows it; who leans upon You and never pulls away.

Lord, when I obey You, may it be with the belief that Your ways are best; when I worship You, may it be with the belief that You are wholly worthy; when I obey You, may it be with the belief that You will never fail. Help me, Father, not to partially believe, but to fully believe; not to occasionally believe, but to consistently believe; not to reluctantly believe, but to enthusiastically believe.

I pray that what I confess with my mouth will be in agreement with what I believe in my heart. I ask that my life will be a daily witness to the world that I am a believer in your Son, Jesus Christ.

Wouldn’t you rather find His rest than be heavy laden?

Wouldn’t you rather obey His word than go your own way?

Wouldn’t you rather believe in His timing than work things out for yourself?

Wouldn’t you rather stand on His truth than your own assumptions?

Wouldn’t you rather know His peace than have your mind filled with anxious thoughts?

Wouldn’t you rather have His wisdom than proceed with what seems good to you?

Christian devotionalIn God we boast all day long, And praise Your name forever.”
Psalm 44:8 (NKJV)

Here are four reasons why today is your best day.

– Today is your best day because you are here. God has placed you in this moment of time for a purpose, and the things that happen to you today will be an unfolding of that purpose.

– What happened to you yesterday, however easy or difficult, was used by God to help prepare you for what He has for you today.

– God will use what happens today to prepare you for what He has for you in future days.

– God has used your past and worked it all together for the good, and He will use this day to add to the good that He has already worked in your behalf.
