It was as though someone just hit her. The thought that she could die from cancer was terrifying.

“The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ear.” – ” reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.” Psalm 18:4-6; 16&17

It was as though someone just hit her. The thought that she could die from cancer was terrifying. Laura grabbed her Bible off the hospital nightstand. She began frantically paging through it, crying out to God for help. Thankfully, the words of scripture comforted her.

Cancer and death were Laura Walker’s powerful enemies. But the author clung to God’s promise of rescue. God’s word filled her with peace. She didn’t know if rescue meant physical healing. Or maybe it meant the ultimate healing: taking her home to heaven. Either way, she was rescued. Death could never touch her cancer-free soul.

Friend, God has promised never to leave or forsake you. Through sickness or health!  Through adversity or blessing. And now fourteen years later, Laura can still testify to God’s faithfulness.
