Glimpses into the Bible - Part 2
by Warren WillisBible study back to part 1 Share page

Many people spend their lives in the pursuit of an inheritance or building one to pass on.  Christ grants us an "Imperishable Inheritance" on the first day of our new relationship with Christ.

I Peter 1:3, 4 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Christ from the dead, to obtain and inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you..."

Most people spend their lives pursuing what Christ grants in a moment and “inheritance” is only one of them.

2. Imperishable Inheritance ...  (v4)

Since the supplied Inheritance is imperishable, incorruptible, does not tarnish or diminish, then the Man or Woman of the Living God of the Bible can pursue/concentrate on righteousness and justice without thought of losing the end result/reward.

(Psalms 33:12 ASV)  Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah, The people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

(Psalms 37:18 ASV)  Jehovah knows the days of the perfect; And their inheritance shall be for ever.

(Psalms 133:3 ASV) It is like the dew of Hermon, coming down upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing - life forever.

(John 3:16-17 ASV) For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him.

(Act 20:32 ASV)  And now I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you the inheritance among all them that are sanctified.

(Act 26:18 ASV)  to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me.

(Eph 1:18 ASV)  having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

(Eph 5:5 ASV)  For this ye know of a surety, that no fornicator, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

(Col 1:12 ASV)  giving thanks unto the Father, who made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light;

(Heb 9:15 ASV)  And for this cause he is the mediator of a new covenant, that a death having taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, they that have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

(I Peter 1:4 ASV)  unto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you,

The Bible says that life on earth is like the “grass of the field” and “fades quickly away.” Why should I spend my whole life pursuing an inheritance of earthly wealth that is time limited to my life-time at best, tarnishes quickly, and once acquired many spend their lives figuring out ways to steal it from me? What stupidity is mine that I would not even consider the offering of Christ of an imperishable inheritance that is “undefiled,” “will not fade away,” and which is “reserved in heaven” for me! Amazing! My own short sightedness at times astounds me.

Lord Jesus, thank you for all of these new friends. I pray that you would open their minds and hearts to the wonders in Your Word. In Your Name I pray, Amen.
